It's a Pajama Jammy Jam!

Children’s music superstars and NOGGIN channel favorites Laurie Berkner, Susie Lampert, Adam Bernstein, and Bob Golden (Also known as The Laurie Berkner Band) will perform a “Pajama Party” concert at the State Theatre on September 13 to benefit The Pajama Program which provides new pajamas for children entering foster care. In addition to wearing pajamas to the concert, families are also encouraged to bring a pair of new children’s pajamas and/or a new children’s book to donate to the program.

A Note from the Band...
Laurie, Susie, Adam, and Bob are throwing a Pajama Party Concert! Kids, wear your pajamas (parents can too) or bring your favorite stuffed animal (for your head of course) to the concert. At the concert we're collecting new pajamas and books for children in need in the U.S. and around the world, (many of whom are waiting to be adopted.) At the concert there will be a collection bin for your donations.

Those not attending the concert, are also encouraged to drop off their pajama/book donations to the State Theatre Ticket Office on September 13. So, come out and support a good cause!

The State Theatre is located at 15 Livingston Ave in New Brunswick, NJ. For information or to purchase tickets call 732-246-SHOW (7469) or visit http://www.statetheatrenj.org/. Check us out on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and YouTube.

State Theatre's Third Annual Family Day

Every year the State Theatre hosts Family Day on Presidents' Day, a nonstop schedule of both free and paid activites at the State Theatre , George Street Playhouse, Crossroads Theatre, Uniter Methodist Church, and the Hub City Big Top. Each time Family Day gets bigger and bigger and this year was no exception. There were ten workshops, five performances at the State Theatre and Crossroads Theatre (including a mini-circus!), and free sing-a-longs and story telling all day long at United Methodist Church. The size was not limited to just the events, but also to the size of the Hub City Big Top, a 30x75 foot heated tent that shuts down Livingston Avenue from George Street to New Street, when last year's was only 20x50 feet.

Live characters from popular children shows filled the street, while volunteers from the community, like Rutgers University, ran a variety of free activity stations. Our most popular station was face painting where kids could get colorful penguins, flowers, Hello Kitties, and Elmos on their cheeks. A close second was balloon animals where kids could choose from a dog, elephant, mouse, horse, monkey, snail, sword, hat, or bunny.

The bunny was clearly the most popular balloon animal of the day. Once the children saw Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny they all wanted one of their own. These two performances were the main attraction of Family Day.

So after all was said and done, and the last cheek was painted and the last balloon was handed out, kids and parents alike went home with lifted spirits and smiling faces. It is those faces that make us want to continue this tradition for years to come.

Bob the Builder says "Yes We Can"

On January 19 and 20th, the State Theatre presents Bob the Builder LIVE! in Spud's Big Mess (yes, Spud is indeed a talking potato). Bob the Builder has become a huge star in the kid's world, a worldwide phenomenon, if you will. Little kids everywhere own or instantly recognize the "Bob the Builder tool belt" or Bob's big yellow construction hat. In fact, it was recently pointed out to me that even President elect Obama is a Bob the Builder fan (even if he doesn’t know it). The catchphrase for Bob’s team of friends in response to the question “Can we fix it” has been “Yes we can” for a decade now, the same phrase that is now on a million Obama posters and desktops around the country. So, what it comes down to is that Bob’s lessons about the power of positive-thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork are for all ages. We could all use a little reminder about being a good neighbor and I think that’s why Bob’s popularity has remained intact, he’s just a good guy. And who doesn’t want to root for the good guy?
