State Theatre attends the 2009 APAP Conference

This week I will head into New York with several thousand industry colleagues for the annual conference of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. The buzz this year will be about the economy of course. I don’t want to sound trite, and indeed things are tough all over, but I have been attending this event on and off for almost 25 years, and in spite of recessions, shifts to the right, shifts to the left, funding crisis, national and natural tragedies, I know that people still come out to see live shows. We frequently work up to two years in advance in planning our schedule, and will be as careful and thoughtful as always in choosing what to book. But I am forging ahead in the knowledge that through times good and bad, eventually, we will all go back to the theater.
